Basic information about the specifications of the Rohloff SPEEDHUB A12

With the Rohloff A12 system, a Rohloff SPEEDHUB A12 gear hub with clamp widths of 142, 148, 177, and 197 mm can be installed in a compatible 12 mm thru-axle frame.

Under certain conditions, the Rohloff A12 system is compatible with the following 12 mm thru-axle systems:

  • DT/Maxle
  • Shimano e-thru 12
  • Syntace X12 (V1): M12x1 threaded bushing clamped on the sprocket side
  • Syntace X12 (V2): M12x1 thread directly in the dropout on the sprocket side

The 12 mm holes and M12 threads in the dropouts of the thru-axle frame are reduced to a diameter of 7 mm by inserting or screwing in bushings. The Rohloff SPEEDHUB A12 is bolted into the frame through the bushings and dropouts using special M7 x 1.00 x 30 mm [36 mm or 42 mm] bolts and NordLock lock washers.

  • A   gap
  • B   axle plate
  • C   socket
  • D   Nordlock lock washer
  • E   Screw M7 x 1.00 x 30mm
  • F   Thick dropouts

Compatible outlet thickness

The dropout thickness [F] is between0.5-1.0mm greater than the length of the standard A12 bushing.

There is a gap [A] (green) of between0.5 and 1.0 mm between the bushing [C] (black) and the axle plate [B] (blue) of the SPEEDHUB A12.

The screw [E] (yellow) securely tightens the bushing (black) and axle plate (blue) of the SPEEDHUB A12 against the dropout. The optimum screw-in length of the screw (yellow) into the axle plate (blue) is ensured.

There is sufficient clearance (green) between the screw (yellow) and the shift shaft (gray) inside the SPEEDHUB A12. There is sufficient clearance between the screw (yellow) and the shift shaft (gray) inside the SPEEDHUB A12.

socket length

Due to the sharp chamfer on the original Rohloff bushing [C], we replaced the bushing with one without a chamfer (blue) to provide more contact surface for mounting the respective adapter.
