If an existing hitch no longer fits when changing bikes, the joint piece can be converted to a hitch base plate that matches the bike. When converting, pay attention to the positive fit between the grooves on the joint piece and the studs on the counter plate. Only tighten the stop nut so firmly that you can still turn the joint piece hand-tight on the clutch base.
